There’s a moment every year — usually around the first cool evening of late September — when summer clothes suddenly feel wrong and you want something with sleeves, a story, and maybe a black cat on it. Welcome to cardigan season. Here’s how we’re dressing for it.

The Halloween cardigan, explained

Somewhere between “ugly Christmas sweater” and “cottagecore knitwear” lives the Halloween cardigan: a cozy button-up covered in pumpkins, ghosts, bats, haunted houses, and — always — at least one smug black cat. It’s become the unofficial uniform of October: spooky enough for a pumpkin patch, soft enough for the couch, and wearable from the first fall morning straight through Thanksgiving.
