How to Care for Printed Apparel & Home Goods

Made-to-order pieces are made to last — if you treat the print right. Five minutes of reading now will keep your Activyz favorites looking new for years. Here’s everything we know about caring for printed apparel and home goods, from the people who make them.

Printed tees, hoodies & cardigans

• Wash inside out, cold. This is 80% of print care. Turning the garment inside out protects the print from friction; cold water protects it from cracking.
• Skip the bleach and fabric softener. Bleach attacks the print chemistry; softener leaves a film that dulls colors over time.
• Dry low, or hang dry. High dryer heat is the #1 print killer. Tumble low or — better — hang it and forget it.
• Never iron the print. If you must iron, do it inside out on low, and keep the iron off the design entirely.

Knit cardigans appreciate one extra kindness: wash in a mesh laundry bag (or a pillowcase) to prevent snags, and lay flat to dry so they keep their shape.

Blankets & pillow covers

Machine wash cold on gentle, tumble dry low. Printed blankets stay softest when you skip the softener (counterintuitive, but true — softener coats the fibers). Pillow covers: wash inside out, and insert pillows only when fully dry.

Doormats

Shake or vacuum weekly; for real dirt, rinse with a hose and mild soap, then air dry flat. Don’t machine-wash a doormat — the backing won’t forgive you. Placed under a covered entry, a printed mat keeps its colors for seasons.

Ornaments, suncatchers & decor

Dust with a soft dry cloth; avoid window cleaners on printed surfaces — a barely damp cloth is plenty. Store seasonal pieces in their original padding (or tissue paper) and they’ll come out of the attic looking like December 1st, not year five.
